BetterSelf

Supportive and empowering app, serving as a personal wellness diary that motivates users to build positive habits and lead healthier, more balanced lives.

About the project

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by maintaining healthy habits in today's fast-paced world? BetterSelf addresses this by providing a simple, personalized, all-in-one habit-tracking and wellness platform.

As part of the CareerFoundry UX Design Bootcamp, I applied a user-centered design process that included research, wireframing, and usability testing. This iterative approach helped create an experience that encourages habit-building, and tracks progress effectively.

Join me as I share the design decisions, challenges, and key takeaways that made BetterSelf an intuitive and empowering wellness solution.

My role

Tool used

The problem

Users of health and wellness apps often struggle with goal management because they use multiple apps for exercise, nutrition, and mental well-being, leading to frustration and inconsistent progress.

BetterSelf simplifies the process by combining fitness, nutrition, and mental well-being into one app.

Solution

BetterSelf is a complete wellness platform that tracks fitness, nutrition, and mental well-being. It offers personalized recommendations and gamified features to keep users motivated.

A key feature is the "Why" space, where users can define their motivations for setting goals, helping to enhance accountability. Additionally, the "Diary" feature allows users to share and track their feelings, delivering a supportive resource for observing emotions and understanding mood changes related to their accomplishments.

Initial wireframes

Mid-Fidelity Wireframes

I used mid-fidelity prototypes to evaluate user interactions and information architecture. I focused on improving navigation, establishing a clear content hierarchy, and validating key features with early user feedback.

Usability Test

Through usability testing, I identified key areas for improvement, including more apparent progress indicators and streamlined navigation. By incorporating user feedback, I enhanced the app’s dashboard visuals and simplified the habit setup, resulting in a more intuitive and engaging user experience.

Hi-Fidelity Wireframes

The high-fidelity prototype showcased BetterSelf's polished design and visual elements, emphasizing the app's supportive identity. User testing offered valuable insights for enhancing usability, particularly in habit creation and progress review screens.

Learnings

The design process highlighted the importance of iterative feedback and user-centered design. From initial wireframes to the final prototype, user insights emphasized simplicity, motivation, and personalization. BetterSelf became a dynamic wellness app by streamlining core functions and enhancing progress visualization, demonstrating the value of listening to users and embracing iteration for habit formation and personal growth.

Next steps

Moving forward, I aim to refine personalized recommendations, enhance user engagement features, create a responsive website, and integrate smartwatch connection capabilities to deliver a more holistic and seamless wellness experience.
